The F-89 Scorpion was the United States Air Force"s first all-weather, two-seat fighter. It was also the most heavily armed fighter ever built. In 1950, the F-89D series appeared with extensive modifications. A combined fuel/missile canister on the wing tip could hold 1165 liters of fuel and 52 FFAR missiles. The next larger series was the F-89J.
